Palazzo del Quirinale (Rome) – Architectural restoration works
Brief historical notes. The main facade of the Quirinale, although characterized by the austere late Renaissance forms designed by Fontana for Sixtus V, is animated by the massive portal of Maderno, erected in 1615, with columns supporting a rich tympanum, on which there are the statues of San Pietro by Stefano Maderno himself, and San Paolo by Guillaume Berthélot. Above the portal stands the Loggia delle Benedizioni, built in 1638 on a design of Bernini, at the center of which is the Madonna with Child by Pompeo Ferrucci.
